Blending Virtual Gameplay with IRL Experiences
Enriching lives through engaging and entertaining multiplatform games. Changing the way people perceive and interact with the world through the power of gameplay.
V-IRL Games will combine an interactive video game entertainment hub with an in real life (IRL) restaurant dining experience. Unlike standard arcade/restaurant-type establishments, the gaming will directly correlate with the customers’ meal and dining experience. This is something that has not been done before. V-IRL Games will pioneer a brand new kind of meal and entertainment experience. Customers/players will play a game that will feature them working for and creating a meal which they will then receive when the gameplay is finished. The plan is to find a restaurateur or food service entrepreneur to pair with in a joint venture or license the gaming platform. The aim would be to acquire investors to fund the project's development and eventually open our first location in downtown Toronto.
The game offered at this restaurant is called The King’s Meal. It is a 3D open world isometric exploration game played on touchscreen tablets with grid pattern movement and combat systems. Such tablets will be built into the tables, making the entire table the screen. The game features an open-world exploration experience, where customers will hunt monsters and forage for ingredients to craft their own meals. Each meal will depend on the ingredients the customer collects, so each time they come to the restaurant, they will have a chance at unique gameplay and dining experience.
Within the game, players will collect various resources, which they can pick and choose from when they are finished playing to put into a meal. In addition, remaining resources can be traded with other players at other tables so that players who have the food they don’t want, or cannot eat due to dietary restrictions or allergies, or just remainders they have no use for. This will allow players to help each other get the meals they wish to have. Players can also trade during the game, allowing them to benefit each other mutually.
The implementation of the game will take place on touch screen tables with pull out trays to put the food on. The notion of connecting online digital gameplay with regular everyday experiences (ie, eating at a restaurant) is what this studio will capitalize on. Adding a layer of gameplay to traditional industries (eg, adding gameplay to a restaurant) gamification techniques to traditional real world experiences.
When players have finished their gameplay, they will have the chance to obtain a meal based on what materials they collected in game. They are able to order meals so long as they have acquired in game the combination of materials needed to make that meal (i.e: A player has acquired meat, beef, and various vegetables in game, which can be used to make a burger from the menu.) Not all of the materials players will have need to go into a meal, and so they are able to sell or trade them with other players in games if they do not need them.
Everything served at V-IRL Games will be standard food products, though many of the ingredients will be renamed for the purpose of fitting the game and its theme (i.e: a cut of steak may be called dragon meat, or spicy chicken may be the hide of a firebird). All food products will be sourced from Canadian vendors, specifically targeting free range farms, and V-IRL Games will take great care in making sure food products are safe, healthy, and within the guidelines of the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR) and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) as customer safety is a top priority.
On top of the meals that customers/players will work to earn, other food will be available to be purchased for players while playing. This will largely entail snack food such as candy and chips and soft drinks which will also be purchased through outside vendors, as well as snack food from the menu which will exist outside of gameplay.
V-IRL Games fills the need for social immersive experiences in traditional industries, specifically the restaurant and dining industry. Today's younger generation, especially those into gaming and social media, desire to combine the digital and IRL worlds to create a blended experience. For the restaurant industry, V-IRL Games fills an important need as it makes the dining experience a destination experience and helps attract a new audience or new customer base. In an industry with traditionally low margins, adding a software driven gaming experience will generate a new high margin revenue model while also increasing engagement, retention and word of mouth.
V-IRL Games has the potential to attract a wide range of customers and players. It can easily become a prime hangout destination for groups of friends in high school, post secondary school or beyond. It can also attract families with children who may want to find something entertaining for their kids to do. It is perfect for casual and RPG gamers, Gen Z and millennial foodies and trendsetters, as well as experimentalists who just want to try something new. Hardcore gamers would find their place here as would casual gamers as the game is easy to pick up and learn. Even parents of kids who don’t know anything about gaming will still easily be able to join their kids on their adventures for the craziest meal they can make. There definitely is a place for all in V-IRL Games which is what makes it so accessible. It is not an exclusive experience or establishment by any means, and with word of mouth marketing, this could very much emerge as the next viral food experience.
V-IRL Games’ target market is individuals who enjoy adventure, games, challenges, and of course, food. It is the perfect place for those looking for something new and unique, an entertaining experience and fine dining. Given the fact that there is nothing like V-IRL Games in Canada, there are no direct competitors which gives this business a unique competitive advantage. Many food and entertainment establishments exist (places like The Rec Room, Gametime Social, Dave & Busters), but none that are directly correlated. V-IRL is different from all those, and offers a unique experience in an already niche market that is growing in popularity. It is for these reasons why there is a focus on individuals who are looking for a new, unique gaming and social dining experience.
The aspect of IRL and digital connection using social gameplay is the core of the company's vision, and people who are interested in that are what this company will capitalize off of. The game offers a unique and interesting way of ordering food at a restaurant, and is forgiving enough to be played by both casual and experienced gamers alike, excluding no one and ensuring entertainment and good food for all who play.
